Programming the VMT200 Waiting Pass Paging System

Programming the VMT200 Waiting Pass Paging System

Introduction

The VMT200 monitor is used in conjunction with the VGP pagers and the VGC charging cradle which we will cover in this section.

Typically, we use this system in hospital reception areas where the receptionist gives the VGP pager to a client and when she is ready to call him/her to reception, she punches in the number of the VGP pager on the keypad of the VMT200 monitor to alert the client that he needs to go to reception. The VGP pager will start to vibrate, flash blue lights and beep in the hand of the client to alert them that reception is calling them.

There are three components to the waiting pass system:
  1. The VMT200 monitor
  2. The VGP pager and
  3. The charging cradle for the VGP pagers.
You will need all three these components to program the VMT200 system.

Programming the VMT200 System

You will need a paperclip or similar size object to program the red VGP100 pagers.

Setting the VMT200 monitor to "programming" mode

Before you can program the red VGP pagers, you first need to do the following:
  1. VERY IMPORTANT! Ensure that ALL of the red VGP pagers are removed from the charger and switched off. Instructions on how to switch them off can be found further below.
  2. On the VMT200 monitor - Disconnect the power cable.
  3. Hold down the RGST button (which stands for register) and while holding the button in, connect the power cable again.
  4. When it shows = PROG Machine= on the screen you can release the RGST(register) button.
  5. You are now ready to program your first VGP pager onto the VMT200 Monitor.

Programming the VGP Pager onto the VMT200 Monitor

Steps:
  1. Switch on the VGP pager. To do this, look at the bottom of your pager. There will be two holes, one says power and the other says reset. Using a paperclip or other small object that would fit, insert the paperclip into the power opening, you will feel a small button that is pushed in, keep it pushed in for about 5 seconds and your pager will turn on. See the below photograph:

Fig 3. The VGP Pager - press a paperclip into the "Power" point to turn the pager on or off.

  2. It is VERY IMPORTANT to switch on ONLY the pager that you want to program. ALL other pagers should be switched off, using the same procedure as mentioned above.
  3. If you look at the screen of the VMT monitor, you will see the following:
Fig 4. The VMT200 should display PROG.
Notice on the top right it says PROG, this means you are in the programming mode. Just underneath the PROG are three zero’s. This would normally indicate how many pagers are already programmed on the monitor. In this case there are no VGP pagers programmed on this monitor yet but you might have some existing ones already.

  4. To program the red VGP pager, make sure it is out of the charging cradle and switched on (NOTE: ONLY the pager you want to program onto the system should be powered on, the rest should be switched off). Then just type in the number of the VGP pager that you want it to display (remember to use the same sticker number as the number you program here) then press the SEND button on the keypad. You will hear a beep sound and the pager should switch off automatically.

Fig 5. Enter the number (of your choice) of the pager and press the SEND button.

  5. Follow the same process for each of the pagers you want to program onto the system until they are all programmed.
  6. At this point, all pagers should now be programmed and switched off automatically.

Setting the "Out of Range" and "Alert" functions on the pager

The out of range function alerts the person that has the pager that he/she has gone too far from the monitor (this prevents people from driving away with the pager etc). The alert function sets the pager to vibrate, beep and flash when its being called.

Steps:
  1. Turn all of the pagers on.
  2. Keep the pagers OUT of the charging cradle and switched on.
  3. Disconnect and re-connect the power supply of the VMT200. No need to hold down any buttons.
  4. You will note that it now says WAIT instead of PROG.
  5. On the keypad, press in the following: *99 and then press the FUNC (function) key. Then type in 966, then press the SEND button. The VGP pager will then flash a blue light for a second. We have just set the vibration option.
  6. Next, we need to set the out of range function. To do this press in *99 then press the FUNC (function) key and then type in 988 and press the SEND button. The VGP pager will once again flash a blue light for about a second.
  7. You are now ready to use the pagers you have just programmed and can place them back in the charging cradle.

Testing a Pager and its Charging Status

You will notice that when the VGP pager is inserted into the charging cradle, the top blue light will flash and other times it will have a solid blue light. If the light is flashing it means that the VGP pager is charging. If the light is solid, it means the VGP pager is fully charged. The VGP pager is charged via contact with 2 pins at the bottom of the charging cradle, therefore you have to make sure that you insert the pagers into the cradle facing the correct way (the lights of the pager should face the vellux logo on the cradle).

Take out a pager from the charging cradle and then press it's number into the VMT200, then press SEND. The pager should start vibrating, flashing and beeping.
